Jose do Canto Garden

Ponta Delgada

The Project involved the recovery of the collection and storage system for rainwater and the installation of an automated system in the José do Canto Garden, Ponta Delgada, included in the EEA Grants Project “Restoration of Garden’s Hydraulic Systems, Walls and Trails”. The irrigation system continues to rely on rainwater, but now through the collection of precipitation fallen on the roofs of the house that have a total area of about 1.000m2. Rainwater collected on the roof is routed to four reservoirs (463m3), which communicate with each other and have a discharge surface which, when exceeded the storage capacity, allows downloading the excess water to a proposed ditch session trapezoidal in basalt, as observed in other gardens of San Miguel. The water stored in reservoirs is filtered and pumped to the pipes that feed the irrigation emitters.
