Quinta das Lágrimas, Coimbra

The hydraulic structures at Quinta das Lágrimas are hundreds of years old and, thanks to continuous maintenance, are still in use today.

The wall of the Lágrimas channel, which carried water to the house and turned the olive press wheel, dates from the 17th century, as does the plaster which lines the stone aqueduct. The project respected the aqueduct wall structure and aim and used it as a backdrop to a contemporary element, consisting of a rectangle of water that reflects the sky, the wall and the vertical lines of the bamboo.
