Quinta das Lágrimas, Coimbra

The fusion Japanese garden in the Relais Chateaux of Quinta das Lagrimas Hotel was made along with the renovation of this famous heritage Hotel and suited to a new clientele coming from the Asian countries. This garden located in nucleus of the Hotel and surrounded by rooms, was designed for hosts to rest in a quite ambiance, to take tea, to meditate and renovate the soul. In the year 1191 the Budist monk Eisai brought from China to Japan the seeds of tea and stated that “Zen and tea have the same taste” The design of this garden, inspired in the lay out of stones and queen on the perfection of the details of Japanese gardens, follows rules of Portuguese garden making where the charm is more valued than the ostentation, the confort is more appreciated than the size.
