Amphitheatre Colina de Camões

Quinta das Lágrimas, Coimbra

The large expanse between the new building and the fountain shall remain flat and free of volumes to ensure the dialogue between the hotel rest areas and the woods and thus enhance the perspective effect. On the other hand a basin must be created to contain the large quantities of rainwater that gather above the fountains and build up without immediate drainage on this land.
One possible function for the gardens, viewed as cultural heritage, is to act as the venue for events (concerts, competitions, plays, etc). To fulfil that aim and in keeping with a common practice in international gardens of an historic nature, a grass amphitheatre will be terraced into the hillside that separates Quinta das Lágrimas from the property to the south.
