Faculty de Biotecnologia of Católica University

Porto

This project presented a site enclosed by the main University buildings. Smaller vegetation was required by the program to avoid screening the building. The design goals aimed at obtaining a non-reflecting surface though allowing an easy scheme of walking paths crossing from building to building. Large pannels of grass were alterned with pavement. The use of traditional “calçada portuguesa” technique – white lime stone and black basalt set on a sand and cement layer – allowed for a design which maintained the buildings style and avoided reflecting surfaces.
